This report shares the experiences of 29 rejected asylum seekers who have returned to Iraq from Denmark. Its aim is to provide insight into their personal experiences of the return and reintegration process, and to highlight the complexity of these experiences through their individual perspectives.

The report shares the experiences of 29 rejected asylum seekers who returned to Iraq from Denmark between 2018 and 2023. It is based on qualitative interviews conducted during DRC’s visit to Iraq in autumn 2023, as well as follow-up telephone surveys.
The returnees are adults aged 20 to 69 who received reintegration support through the European Technology and Training Centre (ETTC).
Their time away from Iraq ranged from 5 months to over 20 years, with most having been away for 3 to 8 years before returning.
