Purpose of the Role
Reporting to the Shelter Non-Food Item (SNFI) Team leader. This position will provide day to day supervision of Construction and infrastructure activities, SNFI assessment and distribution. This includes responsibility for all other sectors construction activities assigned under its control and will also oversee activities of the SNFI Assistants.
Responsibilities.
- Continuously supervises on quality SNFI materials (both shelter repair Kits and household NFI) to be distributed
- Contribute in the preparation of bills of quantities, breakdowns estimate and technical specifications for various construction and SNFI activities.
- Participate in assessment, verification and distribution of SNFIs and providing guidance for vulnerable individuals on the use of different SNFIs.
- Supervise ongoing construction of Shelter units, being constructed by vulnerable persons who received shelter materials.
- Participate in relevant meetings with community leaders, block leader, Relief and Rehabilitation Commission (RRC) and other implementing partners.
- Quality control of material and the implemented activities.
- Conducts frequent rapid needs assessment of the situation in the event of emergency in collaboration with other stakeholders to address construction problems
- Prepare and submit reports as required by supervisor.
- Ensure the observance of the DRC Code of Conduct throughout activity implementation
- Planning and organizing of work schedules, project team member monitoring and guidance.
- Quality control and site monitoring ensuring that services are in accordance to SPHERE standards
- Beneficiaries’ list data collection, field verification, handover documentation and maintaining record
- Continuously update project documentation and files
Experience and Technical Competencies
- Diploma or degree in Civil Engineering, Construction, Architecture, or a related technical field.
- Minimum 2 years of relevant experience; atleast 3 years of NGO experience is an added advantage.
- Proficiency in MS Office and CAD software such as AutoCAD or ArchiCAD.
- Ability to prepare, interpret, and supervise technical designs and works.
- Strong planning, problem-solving, communication, negotiation, and teamwork skills.
- Experience in staff training and capacity building.
- Experience working in complex and hardship contexts under tight deadlines.
- Knowledge of local languages and Arabic is an advantage.
- High professional ethics, integrity, and a results-oriented approach.
