Andreas Kamm began working at the Danish Refugee Council in 1979 and he has held the organisation’s top post since 1998. As Secretary General, Kamm has contributed to developing the organisation into the major international NGO it is today, with offices in 40 countries and an annual budget of over USD 400 million.

“The Danish Refugee Council is now a major international organisation, shaping the agenda and awareness of refugees and displaced persons – both globally and in Denmark. More than ever before, the world’s refugees and internally displaced people need an organisation that helps in the here and now, while also protecting the rights of refugees and improving their future prospects. I will be leaving a well-tuned organisation that is prepared for the tasks that lie ahead. The refugee and migrant crisis will continue to be a major global challenge.  It has been a privilege to work for the cause of refugees and for the Danish Refugee Council,” says Andreas Kamm.

The hunt for a replacement will begin immediately. Stig Glent-Madsen, chairman of the Danish Refugee Council’s executive committee, describes the job profile as follows:

“The Danish Refugee Council is no longer a small Danish aid organisation, but rather an important global player. Therefore, it is important that the next Secretary General can also make an impact internationally. The new Secretary General must be able to speak with conviction at major international gatherings, in the Danish media and with the refugees we help every day. Meanwhile, the task is to lead and continue the development of a highly professional organisation with an aid budget in the billions and more than 6,000 employees. We are looking for a Secretary General who will ensure the continued development of the Danish Refugee Council, while credibly representing the organisation’s values and demonstrating strong business acumen.”

Stig Glent-Madsen calls the task “difficult, but not impossible”.

“In this way, it resembles all of the work performed by the Danish Refugee Council. Andreas Kamm has made an extraordinary and unparalleled contribution to the organisation, and it is hard to say where we would have been today without him.”

The Secretary General job vacancy will be announced on the Danish Refugee Council’s website and in a range of national media in Denmark. The recruitment agency Hudson will assist with the hiring process.
