2025 Les impacts de l'afflux de déplacés sur les «centres urbains»
The influx of displaced populations into urban centres across the Liptako-Gourma region has profound implications for host communities and local dynamics. This new study, conducted within the framework of the PREVENIR project by the Danish Refugee Council (DRC), provides an in-depth analysis of these impacts, with a particular focus on conflict dynamics. Covering cities such as Koro (Mali), Ouahigouya (Burkina Faso), and Téra (Niger), the research highlights key challenges, including pressure on resources, strained social infrastructure, rising living costs, and weakened social cohesion. The study also explores existing strategies to mitigate these effects and identifies opportunities for peacebuilding through local engagement and resilience mechanisms. Combining qualitative and quantitative approaches, it draws on insights from displaced persons, host communities, local authorities, and humanitarian actors. The findings offer critical perspectives for policymakers and stakeholders working towards sustainable solutions in the region.
