In the early morning of April 24th, 2024, the vicinity of the Danish Refugee Council's (DRC) office in Kharkiv, Ukraine was struck by two missiles. This incident caused considerable damage, including to the office premises and DRC vehicles. In the area, 2 civilians were unfortunately injured; however, we are relieved to report that all DRC personnel are unharmed and accounted for.
Against the backdrop of a recent escalation of attacks in Kharkiv, there is a growing concern regarding the impact on civilians and civilian infrastructures. In addition, DRC is worried about the safety of our colleagues who risk their lives daily to support the most vulnerable populations.
"Humanitarian operations and workers are not, and must never be a target,” said Julian Zakrzewski, Country Director of DRC Ukraine. “We ask all parties to the conflict to adhere to the principles of International Humanitarian Law and abstain from targeting not only humanitarian facilities and workers but also any civilians and civilian infrastructure", he further added.
DRC remains committed to continuing its humanitarian support and will resume its programs as soon as possible.
