Weaving a future

For years, survival meant working around the clock as a daily-wage labourer with no stability. Multi-Purpose Cash Assistance gave his family room to breathe — covering rent, food and medicine — and became a starting point for something more. With financial literacy training, business mentorship and start-up capital from the Cash Consortium of Yemen (CCY), Nashwan returned to his trade: sewing and selling Ma'awize to support his wife and children.

Nashwan's story

Displaced from Al Hudaydah since 2016, Nashwan Mohammed and his family now live in Tuban district, Lahj governorate - one of 5.2 million internally displaced people in a country where 22.3 million need humanitarian assistance (OCHA Yemen HNRP 2026).

Multi-Purpose Cash Assistance is funded by European Union Humanitarian Aid (DG ECHO). Continued EU humanitarian funding sustains the cash lifeline that households like Nashwan's rely on.

CCY's wider recovery and resilience programming is also supported by the European Union Delegation to Yemen through the AMAL pillar.

The Cash Consortium of Yemen is led by the Danish Refugee Council (DRC), with Acted, the Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC), Mercy Corps and Solidarités International as members, and the International Organization for Migration (IOM) as a non-funded technical partner.
