DRC Uganda is currently looking for a highly qualified and motivated individual to join our dynamic team as a MMC Global Information Specialist. 

Project Background  

The Mixed Migration Centre (MMC) is a global network engaged in data collection, research, analysis, policy and programmatic development on mixed migration, with regional hubs in Africa, Asia and the Pacific, Europe and Latin America, and a global team based across Copenhagen, Geneva and Brussels. The MMC is part of, and governed by DRC. MMC regional hubs are hosted within DRC regional offices, but part of the global MMC network. While its institutional link to DRC ensures MMC’s work is grounded in operational reality, it acts as an independent source of data, research, analysis and policy development on mixed migration for policy makers, practitioners, journalists, and the broader humanitarian sector. 

The overall purpose of the role:  

The MMC Global Information Specialist will conduct data analysis, create visualisations, and prepare contributions for global publications and other outputs, provide technical support for quality assurance and consistency of data across regions, ensuring effective use of the 4Mi dataset at the global level, serve as the focal point for information management and data collection platforms in the Europe region. The position holder will also participate in analysis and the creation of knowledge products for the Europe region, reporting functionally to the Research and Data Project Manager for Europe and technically to the Global 4Mi Coordinator 

Your main duties and responsibilities will be: 

Support to MMC Global (50%) 

Data Analysis and Visualisation  

  • Conduct in-depth analysis of 4Mi data to support the development of global publications, presentations, and other outputs, ensuring nuanced and evidence-based insights 

  • Draft and review quantitative data sections of global reports, including statistical overviews, charts, and infographics.  

  • Create and design clear engaging data visualisation, charts, and tables for internal and external publications, presentations, and dashboards.

  • Support the development and updating of 4Mi visualisation tools such as 4Mi Interactive to improve the accessibility of findings.   

  • Identify and flag patterns, trends, and anomalies in data for further investigation.  

Quality Assurance and Technical Support 

  • Maintain standard data collection templates and operating procedures, ensuring that the standards and procedures are being adhered to across MMC. 

  • Assist in data cleaning, validation, and quality assurance processes when there are capacity gaps in other MMC regional offices. 

  • Work with field teams and the global team to identify and address potential discrepancies in data. 

  • Provide ongoing feedback to the 4Mi global team to address any discrepancies in data. 

  • Ensure safe data storage, transfer, and archiving according to the latest data protection standards. 

Information Management and Coordination 

  • Contribute to the development of guidance or templates to improve the consistency and quality of data analysis at regional levels. 

  • Participate in team meetings to contribute to discussions on improving 4Mi information management and data analysis processes. 

  • Ensure smooth communication between regional and global teams for data sharing and consistency. 

Support to MMC Europe (50% - estimated) 

Information management and data processing 

  • Ensure maintenance of the data collection platform, and that data is safely stored and shared, well organized and retrievable, data protection guidelines are met, and quality is assured. 

  • Implement data cleaning and data validation tasks on a weekly basis according to internal procedures 

  • Share feedback with relevant project teams after cleaning data to feedback to enumerators, 

  • Manage regional ONA platform, under the supervision of the Research and Data Project Manager 

  • Serve as a focal point for data management in the region by compiling quantitative data from relevant secondary sources; 

  • Support the 4Mi team in preparing and conducting the training of 4Mi enumerators on the questionnaire and the data collection software; 

  • Conduct IM and data processing in compliance with internal procedures. 

  • Ensure liaison with MMC global team on survey design, coding, processing and analysis SOPs.  

  • As EU regional focal point for information management, work with the regional Project Manager as well as colleagues across the network to develop information management tools, and to improve information management and data processing standards in EU. 

  • Provide technical support to enumerators 

Survey design 

  • Responsible for ensuring quality of survey coding and adherence to global standards. 

  • Revise the coding of the survey as required, and in line with MMC standards, coordinating with the 4Mi Global Coordinator as relevant. 

Data analysis and creation of knowledge products 

  • In liaison with the regional team, conduct quantitative analysis to create both visual and written material (including maps), for use in presentations, on the MMC website, in snapshots, and other products. 

  • Lead on the development of data visualisations for, including dashboards on PowerBI. 

  • Lay out MMC reports according to standard templates. 

  • Contribute to dissemination of knowledge products, including the updating of the regional hub’s page on the MMC website. 

  • Stay up-to-date on mixed migration dynamics in the region. 

About you 

To be successful in this role, you must have at least 4 years of experience in information management and development of IM systems. Moreover, we also expect the following. 

Required 

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Statistics, Information management, Information systems, Information Technology or any related field. 

  • Experience in electronic data collection for humanitarian/development research: knowledge of XLSForms and experience with Ona or ODK collect 

  • Proven record in handling and processing multiple large datasets and data cleaning/validation processes;  

  • Record of production of written and visual knowledge products based on quantitative data: knowledge of visualisation software, including mapping software, and of layout; 

  • Experience working in a multicultural environment 

  • Excellent organizational skills and a strong attention to detail 

  • Good team worker with strong communication skills 

  • Problem-solving skills and interest in innovative solutions 

  • High level of proficiency in English or French. 

  • Experience in quantitative data analysis: experience using descriptive and inferential statistics and knowledge of relevant programs and/or programming languages for analysis; 

  • Knowledge of regional migration dynamics 

  • Experience working with humanitarian actors and international NGOs 

  • Spoken and written communication in English/French and Arabic
