The Danish Refugee Council (DRC) is an international non-governmental organization that promotes and supports long-term solutions to the problems faced by refugees and internally displaced persons around the world.

DRC is currently looking for a Shelter and Settlement Assistant to work in Shostka, with possible regular field visits within Shostka and Konotop district.

About the job:

Under the supervision of the  Shelter and Settlement Team Leader and/or Manager, Shelter and Settlement Assistant will provide comprehensive support and contribute to all activities related to the implementation of rehabilitation projects.

Your main duties and responsibilities will be:

  • Participate in needs assessments, non-technical household damage assessments, and the collection of required data within housing recovery projects.
  • Communicate with beneficiaries, community representatives, and local authorities; provide information on project activities and assistance procedures; and support beneficiaries throughout all stages of project implementation.
  • Organize and support field visits, meetings, and participatory activities, as well as coordinate interaction with relevant stakeholders before and during the implementation of activities.
  • Ensure timely and accurate data entry, updating, and maintenance in internal systems and reporting tools.
  • Prepare, maintain, and archive project documentation, including beneficiary agreements, acts, supporting documentation, and means of verification for implemented activities.
  • Participate in monitoring visits, final inspections of completed works, feedback collection, and support project closure activities.
  • Provide support in the implementation of assistance programs, including preparation of payment lists, supporting documentation, and coordination of administrative and logistical processes as required.
  • Ensure compliance with data protection standards, internal organizational procedures, the Code of Conduct, and safety regulations during project implementation activities.

About you

To be successful in this role, we expect you to have at least 1 year of experience in the social sector; experience working with humanitarian organizations will be considered an advantage. In addition, we also expect the following from you:

Required

  • Higher education.
  • Fluency in Ukrainian.
  • Computer literacy: confident user of MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Comfortable talking about sensitive topics and working with people in distress.
  • Interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to work effectively with vulnerable individuals and stakeholders from different walks of life.
  • Organizational and time management skills, ability to prioritize tasks.
  • Personal discipline, punctuality, responsibility in decision-making, honesty, sociability.

Desirable

  • Experience interacting with aid recipients, local authorities, or participating in humanitarian projects.
  • Basic knowledge of English is an advantage.

We offer

  • Contract length: until February 28, 2027 (with the first 3 months as a probationary period), subject to renewal provided funding is available
  • Designation of Duty Station: Shostka city

  • Start date: 1st July 2026
