DRC has implemented projects in Central Darfur, South Kordofan, Gedaref, Port Sudan, and White Nile. Sudan hosts one of the largest displaced populations in Africa, with over 3.7 million internally displaced people and over 1.1 million refugees from South Sudan, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Central African Republic, Chad, Yemen and Syria. Against a background of political crisis, Sudan faces economic and social turmoil, with sharp increases in food and energy costs, further exacerbated by disease outbreaks and ongoing conflict.

POSITION PROFILE

DRC is looking for a DRC is looking for an experienced Protection Assistant with a background in GBV and PSS to ensure high quality implementation of the GBV prevention and response alongside structured and unstructured PSS programing in Khartoum under the technical supervision of the GBV & PSS Officer.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supports the Protection Officer (GBV & PSS) in the implementation of GBV and PSS activities,
  • Provides comprehensive survivor centered case management services to survivors and individuals at risk of GBV
  • Deliver structured PSS group sessions for adults in line with DRC’s Sudan Curriculum and SOPs.
  • Provide unstructured PSS activity, guided by the protection officer (GBV & PSS) and protection specialist.
  • Supports in the mapping and establishment of referral pathways and processes referrals from internal and external service providers, as required.
  • Supports in development of GBV awareness and PSS materials as well as the organization and facilitation of community-based GBV prevention activities.
  • Supports the mainstreaming of GBV and GBV risk mitigation across all programs
  • Ensures timely reporting of project activities, including ensuring all activities are accurately documented on DRC Sudan’s IM database in coordination with the Protection Information Management Officers
  • Conduct MEAL activities, including Pre & Post-test and PSS Follow-up.
  • Supports the Protection Officer (GBV & PSS) in any administrative issues relating to the project activities
  • Adheres to DRC Sudan’s  CoC including PSEAH policies and practices.
  • Any other duties, as directed by the Area Manager.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCES

  • At least 2 years of experience in international organizations and humanitarian settings in a protection position; experience working on GBV and PSS would be an advantage. 
  • Experience supporting on the facilitation of community awareness sessions.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality, respect, non-discrimination and safety of client at all times.
  • Computer Literacy (Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint).
  • Excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills, creativity and flexibility.

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor/ Degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology or other related field.

LANGUAGES  

  • Fluency in written and spoken Arabic.
  • Working knowledge of English IS an advantage

POSITION DETAILS

  • Salary Range Starting from (p.m.): USD 1,025
  • Duty station: Khartoum with frequent travel to surrounding area.
  • Start date: As soon as possible
