Danish Refugee Council (DRC) is a leading protection agency with a mandate to protect, advocate and promote durable solutions for displacement affected populations.

DRC has been operating in Ukraine since 2014, currently DRC employs over 800 staff in Ukraine and implements emergency response in the Protection, Livelihoods, Shelter/NFIs and Humanitarian Disarmament and Peacebuilding (humanitarian mine action) sectors, using direct interventions, support to duty bearers and civil society organizations (CSOs), and partnerships with CSOs. DRC will continue and adapt its durable solutions portfolio to the evolving context.

DRC is currently looking for a Finance Specialist to join our team in Kyiv.

About the job:

We are looking for a Finance Specialist who wants to use their financial skills to support people affected by conflict, displacement, and crisis. You will join an international humanitarian organisation that is serious about impact, but relaxed, friendly, and open in how we work together. You will be part of a larger finance and operations team, working closely with colleagues in programmes, HR, logistics, and senior management.

In this role, you will handle day-to-day finance tasks while also helping us improve how we manage budgets, costs, and financial risks. You will make sure our numbers are accurate, compliant, and easy to understand for both internal teams and external partners and donors. You will have room to take initiative, suggest improvements, and make our finance processes smoother and smarter.

Your main duties and responsibilities will be:

Support functions:

  • Support the development and implementation of financial management capacity building of staff.
  • Provide technical support and advice to the country finance teams.

Financial Management

  • In close cooperation with Managers in geographical area reinforce existing procedures and systems for financial management and control in compliance with guidelines of DRC’s Operations Handbook, internal guidelines and donor requirements.
  • Support timely delivery of quality financial reports to donors and internal reports to colleagues and HQ.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant country statutory and other financial obligations such as tax, levies and statutory returns.
  • Monthly financial briefings to relevant Managers.
  • Ensure thorough and effective budgetary control in the country programs.
  • Liaise with relevant Managers on key financial issues for all programs in the country, including co-funding, financial reporting, key variances and any remedial action.
  • Collect cash forecasts from all Programme Managers and request funds in a timely manner.
  • Maintain a continuous overview of funding levels and pay particular attention to shared support costs, including staff salaries.
  • Ensure all required documentation for financial audits in cooperation with Coordination staff and HQ.
  • Ensure monthly meetings are held with project managers to discuss key variances, reasons for these, and any remedial action that is required.
  • Prepare for local audits.
  • Contribute to the development of proposals with regards to budgeting in cooperation with Managers.

As Specialist the post-holder is responsible for the following:

  • Responsible for providing specialized knowledge and operational know-how within a specific discipline.
  • May also have technical line responsibilities, but generally on technical or operational matters.

About you

To be successful in this role we expect you to have at least 3 years of practical experience in financial management within international organizations. Moreover, we also expect the following:

Required: 

  • University degree: higher education in Finance/Accounting or Business Administration.
  • Proven experience in managing large budgets.
  • Competence in providing technical guidance and training.
  • Proven experience in working with national partners, local/government authorities.
  • Working experience with relevant donors (e.g. UNHCR, ECHO, OFDA, WFP, DFID or BPRM guidelines).
  • Languages: full professional proficiency in Ukrainian and English.
  • Computer literacy: confident user in MS Word, Excel (advanced proficiency level), PowerPoint and Outlook.

We offer

  • Contract length: 3-month probation period, with the possibility of extension for 1 year contract subject to funding and satisfactory performance.
  • Band: G.2 – non-management.
  • Designation of Duty Station: Kyiv
  • Start date: July 2026

Salary and conditions will be in accordance with Danish Refugee Council’s Terms of Employment for employees on national contracts.
