Danish Refugee Council (DRC) is a leading protection agency with a mandate to protect, advocate and promote durable solutions for displacement affected populations. 

DRC has been operating in Ukraine since 2014, currently DRC employs over 800 staff in Ukraine and implements emergency response in the Protection, Livelihoods, Shelter/NFIs and Humanitarian Disarmament and Peacebuilding (humanitarian mine action) sectors, using direct interventions, support to duty bearers and civil society organizations (CSOs), and partnerships with CSOs. DRC is currently looking for a English Teacher in Kharkiv.   

About the job 

DRC is currently looking for the English Teacher, who will enable staff members of the organization to improve their English language skills, fostering effective communication within the organization. This position will report to the Support Services Manager.

Your main duties and responsibilities will be: 

  • Design and deliver English language group courses for staff members of the Danish Refugee Council in Kharkiv, ensuring effective language acquisition and strong communication skills development.
  • Assess and accommodate different proficiency levels among learners.
  • Individual instruction to various proficiency levels: customize lesson plans and materials to accommodate learners with varying levels of English proficiency, fostering a supportive and inclusive learning environment.
  • Customize lesson plans and materials to meet individual learning needs.
  • Improve cross-cultural communication within the organization.
  • Enhance staff collaboration and effectiveness in achieving the organization's mission.
  • Respond to exceptional requests for administration tasks as agreed with the line manager.
  • Implement innovative teaching strategies and teaching materials.
  • Monitor and evaluate learner progress.
  • Train and prepare staff to obtain English language certification as needed.

About you 

To be successful in this role we expect you to have at least 3 years of work experience in English Teaching.  Moreover, we also expect the following:  

Required  

  • Higher education in a relevant specialty or an equivalent professional qualification
  • Adaptability to tailor instruction to different learning styles and levels.
  • High professional ethics and understanding of privacy policy.
  • Certified level of English.
  • Proficiency in written and spoken Ukrainian language.

Desirable 

  • Strong communication skills.
  • Stress resistance and a positive attitude towards tasks.
  • Certification in relevant teaching qualifications (preferred).
  • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

We offer 

  • Contract length: 6 or 12 months with the possibility of extension depending on performance and availability of funding (the first 3 months are a probation period).
  • Band: H– non-manager
  • Designation of Duty Station: Kharkiv
  • Start date: As soon as possible
  • Type of contract: Part-time (25 hours/week), work in the Kharkiv Office
  • Working hours: Monday-Friday 08:30-13:30 or 13:00-18:00
