Danish Refugee Council, one of the world’s leading humanitarian NGOs, is currently looking for a highly qualified Protection Assistant.   

 

About the job 

Under the management of the Protection Team Leader, and in close coordination with the rest of the protection team, the Protection Assistant will carry out a variety of field-based activities in line with Protection Information principles and Standard Operating Principles (SOPs). These include but are not limited to individual interviews, focus group discussions, direct observation, community engagement and identification and referrals of individuals requiring an immediate response. The Assistant will support the Team Leader and the Protection analysis specialist in the development of protection monitoring information sharing products. He/she will also provide protection services as needed, including but not limited to information provision, psychosocial support and case management. S/He will develop and maintain good relations within the broader Protection team, community focal points, and beneficiaries. 

 

Your main duties and responsibilities will be: 
 
Programming & Operations  

  • Under the management of the Protection Team leader carry out effective protection monitoring activities and/or other assessments with efficiency and according to the developed work plan.  
  • Keep an updated contextual understanding of the areas covered under the protection sector activities to be able to support the analysis of the data collected  
  • Monitor and share trends for analysis of the protection situation and environment in all areas of intervention for all groups of concern for management, program, and advocacy purposes.  
  • Support the Protection Team Leader to contribute to the regular development of protection monitoring products, including monthly/quarterly/annual highlights/ad hoc reports as requested by the Protection Team Leader or Program Manager.   
  • Implement DRC’s protection monitoring/protection assessments ensuring timely delivery of the agreed outputs, in accordance with international standards.  
  • Share information to allow awareness of and response to developments, emergencies, and population movements through participating in rapid protection assessments, joint assessments, protection analysis etc. to identify protection concerns and needs to inform response.  
  • Constantly monitor the provision of services in areas of operation, and report on findings to ensure highest level of access to services.  
  • Participate in the implementation of general protection activities in accordance with agreed objectives, such as outreach and information dissemination, psychosocial support and case management  
  • Build strong rapport with community members through consistent engagement, adhering to dignified, safe, and culturally sensitive approaches.  

  

Coordination and representation  

  • Represent DRC to communities including community focal points, persons of concern and otherwise as delegated by the Protection Team Leader and/or Program Manager  
  • Contribute to coordination with other DRC sectors.  
  • Ensure professional standards and transparent communication to build trust and collaboration with communities and their representatives.   
  • Ensure interactions with individual beneficiaries and community groups takes place in environments and ways that respect and promote safety, agency and dignity in accordance with professional standards for protection and humanitarian work.  

  

Logistics/Finance  

  • Provide inputs in planning and coordination of logistics and movements.  
  • Support the coordination of program activities as they relate to logistics, administration, finances, or security as relevant, in coordination with the Protection Team Leader.   
  • Understand and comply with the relevant internal policies and directives.  

 

About you 

To be successful in this role we expect you to have at least 1 year of professional experience in humanitarian interventions, MHPSS programming, human rights, civil society, communication, or community development, preferably with an international humanitarian organization.   

 

Moreover, we also expect the following:  

 

Experience in data collection, research or analysis.  

  • Strong skills in verbal and written communication.  
  • Proven capacity to document, summarize and analyze protection data and to share information in a clear and systematic manner.  
  • Experience in identifying and responding to needs of particularly vulnerable individuals and groups based on field work, protection, age, gender, and diversity analysis and other criteria. 
  • Demonstrated capacity to effectively represent a humanitarian organization with communities and stakeholders. 
  • Familiarity with international protection and human rights legal standards

Education:  

  • University Degree in social sciences, humanitarian affairs, development, or any other related field. 

Languages:  

  • Fluency in written and spoken Arabic and English.  
  • Knowledge of French and other languages are considered as asset
