ABOUT DRC SUDAN

 

 

The Danish Refugee Council (DRC), one of the world’s leading NGOs, with a focus on responding to displacement, have been registered in Sudan since 2004, delivering life-saving programming in protection, emergency response, shelter, food security and livelihoods, disaster risk reduction, camp management, and humanitarian mine action. DRC has implemented projects in Central Darfur, South Kordofan, Gedaref, Port Sudan, and White Nile. Sudan hosts one of the largest displaced populations in Africa, with over 3.7 million internally displaced people and over 1.1 million refugees from South Sudan, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Central African Republic, Chad, Yemen and Syria. Against a background of political crisis, Sudan faces economic and social turmoil, with sharp increases in food and energy costs, further exacerbated by disease outbreaks and ongoing conflict.

 

POSITION PROFILE

Under the direct supervision of the Economic Recovery Team Leader, the Economic Recovery Assistant serves as a base-level focus and ensures compliance with DRC procedures and guidelines. The role ensures effective delivery of activities including cash-for-work (CfW), vocational training (TVET), entrepreneurship support, MSME strengthening, and financial inclusion initiatives. The position plays a key role in community engagement, beneficiary support, data collection, and coordination with local stakeholders to improve employment and income opportunities and strengthen resilience among vulnerable populations.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provides administrative or technical support with the implementation of emergency activities in the area as well as other programs, where needed and relevant
  • Assist the sector officer in ensuring compliance with DRC and donor processes, quality of the planning, implementation and follow-up of emergency activities in line with sector guidelines and standard operating procedures.
  • Carry out basic tasks within the sector area, including beneficiary identification, distribution of relief assistance (either cash or in-kind), needs assessments and other sector-specific evaluations.
  • Support the Economic Recovery Officer in rolling out livelihood counselling forms and collecting data from beneficiaries.
  • Help organize and coordinate day-to-day implementation of livelihood activities such as vocational training, Business grants, cash for work, job referrals, and skills training.
  • Input and update beneficiary information and referrals into DRC’s database accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Support in delivering follow-up communication with beneficiaries regarding their next steps.
  • Carry out administrative tasks, including preparation of PRs, POs, service contracts, financial reconciliation and tracking of outputs.
  • Ensure timely reporting of outputs and escalation of issues faced during program implementation.
  • Coordinate with the Protection and other teams to support protection mainstreaming in all activities.
  • Follow given work plans and guidelines.

 

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCES

1–3 years of relevant experience in:

  • Livelihoods or economic recovery programming
  • NGO or humanitarian sector work.
  • Cash-based interventions or CfW.
  • Entrepreneurship or SME support (preferred)
  • Experience in conflict or displacement contexts is an advantage.

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in:

  • Economics.
  • Business Administration.
  • Development Studies.
  • Agriculture or related field.

LANGUAGES  

  • Arabic – fluent.
  • English basic.

POSITION DETAILS

  • Type of contract: National Contract.
  • Contract Length: 12 Months.
  • Band: NM.I.1
  • Salary Range Starting from (p.m.): USD 1025.00
  • Duty station: Gedaref.
  • Start date: As soon as possible

Salary and conditions will be in accordance with Danish Refugee Council’s Terms of Employment for national employees.
