Danish Refugee Council (DRC) is a leading protection agency with a mandate to protect, advocate and promote durable solutions for displacement affected populations.

DRC has been operating in Ukraine since 2014, currently DRC employs over 800 staff in Ukraine and implements emergency response in the Protection, Livelihoods, Shelter/NFIs and Humanitarian Disarmament and Peacebuilding (humanitarian mine action) sectors, using direct interventions, support to duty bearers and civil society organizations (CSOs), and partnerships with CSOs. DRC will continue and adapt its durable solutions portfolio to the evolving context.

Following the recruitment process:

  • The first recommended candidate will be offered a fixed-term contract for 3 month as a probation period with the possibility of extension subject to performance and funding.
  • The second recommended candidate will be offered a temporary replacement contract covering the absence of the regular driver during sick leave (approximately 1.5–3 months).

About the job

Overall purpose of the role is to support and carry out passenger transportation within Ukraine, planning

and management of transport and logistics activities in support of humanitarian assistance operations in

Kharkiv/Donetsk regions, with business trips around Ukraine. The driver is responsible for driving,

managing and administering the vehicle to provide safe and efficient transport for operations teams and

field offices.

Your main duties and responsibilities will be:

  • Carry out the Daily vehicle driving duty and inspection of vehicle in accordance with the Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) Fleet Management.
  • Ensure that each vehicle is carrying a Vehicle Logbook, First Aid Kit and Fire Extinguisher.
  • Ensure that the vehicles are cleaned both inside and out whenever needed.
  • Report any accident or damage or defects to the vehicle to the Fleet Officer and Security Specialist and appropriate complete Accident Report, passing it to the Fleet Officer for action.
  • Check and ensure Vehicle Logbooks are correctly completed.
  • Make sure that all vehicles are parked correctly during the day and at night at the office parking.
  • Understand and obey all traffic laws and regulations of Ukraine and DRC in country.
  • Advise the Supply Chain Officer of needed service and maintenance of the assigned vehicle minimum 3 days in advance.
  • Communicating with Fleet Officers and Security Officers.
  • Monitoring fuel states and organizing refuelling.
  • Sending the complete Logbook to the Fleet Officer at the end of each day.
  • Drivers are required to work in accordance with the operational needs of the operation.

About you

To be successful in this role we expect you to have a valid driver’s license in categories B and C

(will be an advantage). You should also possess at least three years of driving experience,

preferably with international non-governmental organizations (INGOs). Moreover, we also expect

the following:

Required

  • Fluency in the Ukrainian language.
  • Experience with manual transmission
  • Accident-free driving experience (3+ years) in a similar position.
  • Knowledge of the technical characteristics of vehicles.
  • Basic computer literacy, including skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
  • Knowledge of the area.

Desirable

  • University degree (secondary education is the minimum requirement).
  • English language proficiency at level A1.
