Suffering by Design: The Human Cost of Repeated Displacement in Gaza

The joint report Suffering by Design, produced by the Danish Refugee Council (DRC), Agricultural Development Association (PARC), and Women’s Affairs Centre (WAC), sheds light on the devastating impact of forced and repeated displacement in Gaza. Since October 2023, over 90% of Gaza’s population has been displaced, with families uprooted an average of six times, often without adequate warning, forcing people to make perifying journeys on foot to seek safety that does not exist in Gaza. Drawing on testimonies from displaced individuals and data from displacement sites housing 32,000 people, the report reveals how overcrowding, resource scarcity, and inadequate living conditions are driving further displacement. It highlights the systematic deprivation of essential services, breaches of International Humanitarian Law, and the catastrophic mental health crisis among civilians.
