Since 2013, the Danish Refugee Council (DRC) has been operating in Burkina Faso, initially to support Malian refugees and later to respond to the needs of internally displaced persons within the country.
The conflict in Burkina Faso is evolving rapidly, and DRC will be here every step of the way to ensure those affected by the conflict can continue their lives in safety and dignity.
DRC is now among the leading humanitarian actors in the country, providing live-saving assistance and seeking durable solutions.
DRC currently has an operational presence in 5 regions (Centre-Nord, Nord, Sahel, Centre Est and Boucle du Mouhoun), with a coordination office in Ouagadougou.
We deploy integrated, agile, innovative and high-impact programming that meets the needs of conflict-affected populations, whatever their status, in rural and urban areas, in a rapidly changing context with fixed and mobile emergency response capacities. DRC is a central player in emergency responses, particularly in areas that are difficult to access and for the most vulnerable.
DRC responds directly but also provides strong support to national and local actors by strengthening their capacities and increasing their access to emergency-related funding.
DRC is also developing medium and long-term programs in collaboration with international and national NGOs, community-based organizations and state institutions. These programs aim to strengthen community protection, social cohesion, and access to essential services and livelihoods in a sustainable way.
