Meet Akin Duran, our Communication with Communities Officer

Akin Duran, the Communication with Communities Officer in Una-Sana Canton, started working in the DRC almost three years ago as a member of the protection team. With his previous experience gained in the NGO sector, he contributed a lot to a better understanding of the cases and situations that DRC teams faced on a daily basis while interacting with people on the move.

"My day starts with a short briefing with colleagues in the temporary reception center, emphasizing the newest information, specific cases, and planned activities for the day. I am responsible for establishing connections with the various communities of people on the move, based on their country of origin, and establishing good communication with them. My daily activities include monitoring, evaluating, and organizing the daily tasks with the goal to implement activities that will change the short stay of beneficiaries in the TRCs. We hope, as a team, that we can provide the best services for all the people on the move currently residing in Bosnia and Herzegovina," says Akin.

The biggest challenge that Akin faces are showing understanding and empathy to all the different characters around him. With good communication, patience, and an explanation of the DRC's mission and vision from the Lipa Center team, it is possible for people on the move to receive needed help and services in a timely and high-quality manner, with the utmost respect for their human rights. 

"Being a part of the DRC is like being a part of a humanitarian family where we all share the same values. We face challenges on a daily basis, but with good teamwork, there is nothing we cannot overcome," Akin concludes, who accumulates his passion and work energy while doing sports activities in his free time.
