Nasra’s Strength, Our Commemoration -This International Women’s Day!

As we mark International Women’s Day 2025 under the theme “For ALL women and girls: Rights. Equality. Empowerment.”, we celebrate women like Nasra Aden Ibrahim, whose resilience and determination are shaping a brighter future for herself, her family, and her community.

A 30-year-old mother of four from Dadaab, Nasra’s life has been defined by struggle and perseverance. Having dropped out of school at a young age, she faced limited economic opportunities. But when she enrolled in the Hairdressing & Beauty and Henna Decoration programs at the Dadaab Vocational Training Centre, she found a renewed sense of purpose.

"For a long time, I felt like my dreams were out of reach. Now, I have the skills to earn a living, provide for my children, and stand on my own. This training has empowered me in ways I never thought possible," Nasra shares.

With every lesson, Nasra is gaining not just technical skills but also confidence and independence. The promise of a starter kit upon completing her training has fuelled her ambition to open her own beauty salon, inspired by her tutor, who was once a student at the same centre and now runs a thriving business.

Nasra’s story is a testament to why access to education and economic opportunities is essential for achieving gender equality. When women are equipped with skills, they break cycles of poverty, drive change, and uplift their communities.

International Women’s Day

This International Women’s Day let’s champion the rights of all women and girls. Let’s invest in skills, education, and opportunities that foster true empowerment. Because when women rise, entire communities thrive.
