DRC representation in Brussels
DRC has been present in Brussels since 2016, with a small, specialised team representing DRC as a leading European NGO committed both to meeting life-saving needs and to advancing resilience and sustainable solutions in displacement-affected contexts.
DRC Brussels Representation Office
The DRC Brussels Representation office serves as DRC´s primary link to the European Institutions and key European Commission donors. The overall objective of the DRC Brussels is to establish DRC as a partner of choice for EU institutions and to maximize DRC’s influence on relevant EU policies, with a focus on developing strategic EU partnerships. We aim to raise institutional awareness on issues related to refugees and people affected by conflict and displacement through strategic engagement with EU policymakers in the European Commission, European External Action Service, Members of the European Parliament, and EU Member States’ Permanent Representations, based on evidence from DRC country operations. DRC Brussels also plays a vital role in the support of DRC’s EU funding activities via provision of strategic guidance and technical support to colleagues across the organization.
About DRC in Brussels and priorities
- Advocacy: DRC Brussels aims to influence European Union policies on humanitarian action, sustainable development, and asylum and migration by providing evidence-based analysis and conveying first-hand insights from our work with refugees, IDPs, and migrants to European decision-makers. Our approach seeks to ensure that EU’s policies are informed by DRC practice and have a positive impact on our thematic and geographic priorities and ultimately on the populations we serve.
- Partner engagement and compliance support: DRC Brussels leads outreach towards Brussels-based institutions to foster and strengthen DRC’s strategic partnerships with EU donors and stakeholders. In addition, DRC Brussels provides guidance to DRC country operations’ EU funding and strategic engagement efforts, as well as recommendations on risk mitigation and donor regulations.
- External representation: DRC Brussels represents the organisation vis-à-vis Brussels-based institutions and relevant stakeholders. DRC Brussels also regularly hosts visits from DRC country offices and Head Quarters, and facilitates briefings, events, and meetings with EU policy- and decision-makers in order to convey operational realities and position the organisation as a thought-leader in our areas of expertise.
