Young People’s input to the UN Summit of the Future, Denmark's Engagement in Africa, and beyond

On International Youth Day, 12th of August, directly from DRC’s office Kampala, Uganda, young people affected by displacement presented their views, engaged with high-level representatives from the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and provided recommendations to some of the most important policy processes at current time. Here you can find the recommendations and a short highlight video of the event.

Young people's recommendations

The largest generation of young people in history is at core of the new Danish Strategy for Engagement in Africa, launched on Monday the 26th of August 2024. By 2050, 1/4 of the world’s population will live in Africa and 1/3 will be young people.

New solutions, partnerships and not least engagement by young people themselves are key to unleash the potential of the ‘Youthquake’ as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs call it.

Of the estimated 2.4 billion young people, 90% of the live in the Global South, and indeed across Africa. Many are affected by conflict, climate change and displacement. It is therefore essential, that these young people are included and their aspirations reflected at the upcoming Summit of the Future, later in September.

To make sure the voices and recommendations by displacement affected young people feed into the above processes, DRC and partners work to engage young people – and for them to be part of the decision making and future solutions.

About the event

The event was organised by DRC in partnership with the Danish ‘With and For Youth Network’, consisting of eight leading Danish INGOs namely: Danish Red Cross, Red Cross Youth, Plan Børnefonden, Save the Children Denmark, Oxfam Denmark, MS Action Aid, and DFUNK, with support from The Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
