Libya - Perceptions on durable solutions: a social media analysis
DRC Libya is planning to conduct a social media analysis on the perceptions in Libya of Internally displaced persons (IDPs) and returnees in order to improve our understanding and approach to durable solutions programming.
The challenge - a lack of information
Libya is in transition from a humanitarian-response under the HRP to a nexus approach under the UNSDCF. In this setting, DRC has led a Durable Solutions consortium with NRC and IRC to draft a Durable Solutions Framework and Concept Note for Libya.
In the development of these products, it became evident that there is a lack of information and data within the international community on views and perceptions of durable solutions, in part because this is a new area of work in Libya, but also because of the lack of access and the sensitivities in the country. Therefore, DRC is planning to conduct a social media analysis to start to fill this gap and gain a better understanding on the topic.
Using social media analysis in a humanitarian context
Social media analysis has traditionally been used by the private sector to inform marketing strategies. Only recently, some humanitarian and development actors have started to use social media analysis to fill certain information and data gaps. This project will be the first of its kind for DRC and will provide key lessons on how to use digital mapping tools to collect data on perceptions and inform programming.
