About the event

The Danish Refugee Council’s Diaspora Programme and the Nordic–Africa Diaspora Collective Initiative led by Golda Fania and Aisha Tambajang are bringing together experts and professionals from the African diaspora in the Nordic countries to explore how they can strengthen collaboration between stakeholders in the region and their home countries.

This initiative is initiated to respond a rapid growing in the development sector as well as global dynamics in the humanitarian field. Besides, the roundtable is also designed aligning with Denmark’s Africa Strategy and broader global commitments to equity, partnership, and locally led development.

It is worth noting that African diaspora communities contribute over $95 billion annually in remittances. These numbers exceed most forms of bilateral aid, whereas their leadership, lived expertise, and transnational networks remain significantly underutilized in formal humanitarian and development frameworks.

What are the main topics covered in the discussion?

The roundtable will focus on three strategic objectives aimed at enhancing the African diaspora’s role in a more strategic, inclusive, and locally grounded programme implementation to address complex challenges across key sectors.

  • Strengthen the role of African diaspora communities as the co-lead of humanitarian response, sustainable development, and inclusive economic growth beyond transnational borders.
  • Unfold greater opportunities of diaspora contributions which further shapes localisation initiatives in digital innovation and climate resilience.
  • Excel diaspora expertise into policy frameworks, funding mechanisms, and programme delivery across the Nordic–Africa cooperation.

Who can participate in this roundtable?

  • Nordic-Africa diaspora leaders across sectors, including but not limited to entrepreneurship, humanitarian response, academia, culture to co-design and co-implement the strategies.
  • African embassies and regional bodies seeking deeper ties with diaspora communities to advance investment, diplomacy, and bilateral partnerships.
  • International NGOs and development funds working on localization, inclusion, youth employment, and diaspora engagement models.
  • Donors and policy institutions committed to rethinking traditional development paradigms and unlocking new channels of knowledge, capital, and innovation.
