DRC

Šemsudin Ljumanović has been working in the DRC for almost 4 years. As a social worker, he already had prior knowledge and experience with the protection of human rights and the safety of vulnerable and minority groups of people. He started working as a Protection monitoring officer. He also worked as a Senior protection officer, Protection Team Leader, and his current position is Filed Coordinator. Šemsudin made an outstanding contribution to establishing a good connection and coordination with the authorities in Una-Sana Canton, as well as with the international and local NGOs, and UN agencies.

“DRC is an organization that takes care of values that are identical to what I strive for. A great team, SMT's professional and human attitude, excellent working conditions, health, and psychosocial support are just some of the reasons why DRC is a great working environment. Daily I am responsible to coordinate with state authorities, and local institutions to ensure relevant support is provided to duty bearers to ensure much-needed support to the people on the move currently residing in the area of Una-Sana canton,” said Šemsudin who is currently dedicated for mapping new engagements for collaboration with state institutions and local NGOs, coordination with partners to ensure adequate humanitarian response.

His accumulated knowledge and experience related to the mixed migration response was capitalized through the development of various documents - Protection SOPs, Child protection SOPs, General interagency SOPs, referral pathways, etc.

“The biggest challenge I have encountered during the previous years was to strengthing the social cohesion in the local communities, and to avoid xenophobia towards people on the move and to respond to mixed migration with resilience and humanity,” concludes Šemsudin.

Šemsudin, as a former basketball player, mostly spends his free time with his 11-year-old son aiming to transfer at least part of his basketball knowledge and experience to him. Two of them also spend relaxing time traveling, watching movies, and playing video games with my son.
