Multipurpose Cash Assistance: Supporting the Basic Needs of Families Amidst Yemen's Conflict

Haddah Maghour, a mother of ten, was compelled to leave Al Hudaydah governorate and relocate with her family to Abyan governorate due to the intensifying conflict. Haddah and her family experienced the hardships of displacement, with Haddah, who has diabetes, and one of her sons needing regular medical attention.

To address the challenges faced by displaced families like Haddah's, the Cash Consortium of Yemen (CCY), hosted by the Danish Refugee Council and funded by the European Union, provides life-saving humanitarian interventions. The CCY program offers multi-purpose cash assistance (MPCA) and resilience-building support to vulnerable households in Yemen.

Established in 2020, the CCY aims to enhance the living conditions of socio-economically vulnerable and conflict-affected individuals in Yemen. Led by the Danish Refugee Council (DRC), the CCY includes Acted, Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC), Mercy Corps, Solidarités International (SI), and the International Organization for Migration (IOM) as partners. The CCY aims to maximize the effectiveness of cash assistance and facilitate the transition to long-term resilience programs through referrals.

With the assistance provided, Haddah was able to restock food supplies, obtain essential medical care for herself and her younger son, and settle outstanding debts. "Thanks to Solidarités International and the donor (European Union) for the cash assistance received, we were able to have a normal and stable life, even if other things are missing, but at least we have enough daily food," she expressed with gratitude.
