Nertiti youth are building peace in Sudan
As Sudan enters its fourth year of conflict, young people across the country continue to face shrinking opportunities, disrupted lives and growing social pressures. In areas like Central Darfur, youth are at the centre of efforts to rebuild trust and promote peace.
This anniversary is a moment to recognize both the challenges youth face and the critical role they play in shaping more stable communities.
Through partnership with DRC, the Nertiti Youth Forum has been creating spaces for dialogue, engagement, and collective action.
On World Peace Day 2025, the Forum convened over 3,700 participants in Nertiti, bringing together diverse community groups in a shared space for dialogue, cultural exchange, and mutual understanding. Cultural performances reflected the richness and diversity of the region, while open discussions addressed key social challenges and pathways toward peaceful coexistence.
Beyond this milestone, the Forum has facilitated open community dialogue platforms, engaging over 1,335 participants, including women, youth, and community leaders. These forums have provided structured spaces to discuss community concerns, strengthen relationships, and promote dialogue as a tool for conflict resolution.
These efforts highlight how youth-led, locally driven initiatives contribute to strengthening social cohesion and supporting peacebuilding in fragile contexts.
As the conflict continues, many young people remain at risk of exclusion, unemployment, and involvement in cycles of violence. Sustained investment in youth engagement, dialogue platforms and locally led peace initiatives is essential to support stability.
Three years into the conflict, peace cannot be built without youth, and cannot be sustained without continued support, inclusive dialogue. We need collective commitment to ending the violence that continues to affect communities across Sudan.
