Danish Refugee Council’s (DRC) engagement in return is rooted in its humanitarian mandate to protect displaced people and promote durable solutions. Return can be one pathway towards a durable solution, but only when it takes place in safety and dignity, respects national and international human rights standards, and enables sustainable reintegration.

Through protection activities, reintegration support, and counselling, DRC supports people affected by displacement in navigating complex decisions about return and reintegration. Our priority is to ensure that people are able to make informed decisions, and that their rights, dignity, and agency are respected throughout the return process.
Based on this knowledge, DRC also advocates for safe and dignified return procedures, including strengthening the conditions for sustainable reintegration and self-reliance.
At a time when return is increasingly shaped by political priorities and efforts to increase returns, DRC’s engagement remains rooted in humanitarian and protection principles and a commitment to ensure durable solutions for displacement-affected people.
