DREAM: Digital Race for Employment and Mobility

This project seeks to connect young people from marginalized groups with potential employers in the digital design industry.

The challenge - high unemployment rates among young people

Tunisia lacks rules to regulate the status of migrants, asylum seekers and refugees in its territory. Refugees and asylum seekers often face difficulties in Tunisia with regards to access to documentation, decent work and relations with the host community. Refugees are registered with the Red Crescent and processed by UNHCR. Because the documentation provided by UNHCR is not formally recognized by Tunisian authorities, refugees risk being arrested and considered as irregular migrants. The possibility to remain legally in the country is limited for refugees, and their biggest challenges remain to gain access to legal documentation and their inability to stay legally in the country long-term. Without formal work or residency permits, refugees and asylum seekers are often forced to work in the informal sector and are extremely vulnerable to exploitation and abuse. Their irregular status makes it particularly difficult for them to have legal recourse and to enforce their rights.

The project is particularly relevant because of the high unemployment rates among young people from marginalized groups. This is, among many other things, due to a severe lack of access to digital skills and training. This limits the opportunities for young people to connect with potential employers.

Connecting young people with potential employers

Young Tunisians have to find jobs in an country currently going through both political and economic crisis. The Danish Refugee Council will seek to connect young Tunisians, migrants, refugees and/or asylum seekers trained and/or interested in Graphic Designing with online digital income generating opportunities in the graphic design industry via an existing online platform where clients post their designing needs. This project will allow DRC to rapidly and concretely link people of concern with digital employment

In order not to waste a generation of potential, it is vital that these young people are taken care of and provided with job-opportunities. DREAM seeks to connect young people from marginalized groups with potential employers by providing young people with the skills and training they need to succeed in the digital design industry.
