Empowering Local Actors: DRC Localization Strategy in Yemen

Mohammed Al Flistini

Posted on 26 Mar 2025

Localization is key to sustainable humanitarian efforts, ensuring that those closest to the challenges are leading the response and driving meaningful change.

With this in mind, a consortium of civil society organizations came together and developed Yemen’s localizations policy. This was the basis for DRC Yemen’s localization strategy. Developed in 2022, and running through 2025, it is tailored to the needs of our different intervention areas – the different cultural, social, and operational contexts across the country.

Our main goal? To strengthen the role of local actors in leading humanitarian responses while ensuring duty bearers are held accountable for delivering the rights of those in need. One of those local actors is the Afaq Shababia Foundation.

Video interviews

This video highlights DRC Yemen's localization strategy, developed in 2022, which aims to empower local actors like the Afaq Shababia Foundation to lead humanitarian responses.
