Joint statement: Solutions and Protection at the Center of Quality Funding
At the High Commissioners Dialogues on Protection Challenges, DRC, IRC, and NRC call for financing for solutions and principled humanitarian action.
Refugee Response Plans in major refugee hosting countries are chronically underfunded. There are critical gaps between the funding available and funding required to support solutions for displacement and meet the urgent needs of people. Enhancing partnerships with a broad range of actors, including financial institutions, is imperative to combat persistent shortfalls in funding for sudden-onset emergencies as well as protracted crisis situations that affect a large proportion of refugee populations.
The Danish Refugee Council (DRC), International Rescue Committee (IRC) and Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) welcome the focus on Development Cooperation at the High Commissioner’s Dialogue on Protection Challenges this week and call for strengthening quality funding for early action and solutions and for ensuring a rights-based and principled approach to humanitarian and development assistance.
Rising global economic inequality, protracted armed conflicts and the climate crisis are fueling global displacement at rates far exceeding the availability of solutions. With funding currently failing to keep up with rising humanitarian needs, there is an increasing need for concentrated multistakeholder efforts across the humanitarian, development and peacebuilding pillars that focus on durable solutions. The need for Innovative financing and smart funding models that focus on long-term recovery and resilience-building are evident.
As humanitarian organizations, we are committed to contribute and engage with the view to advance protection, inclusion, and solutions for displaced communities worldwide.
Solutions and protection at the center of high-quality funding
